As grateful as I am for the opportunity to have a home office, I am also looking forward to meeting my colleagues and our CMS exhibitors in person again.

Hall planning differently

The Corona-related path to a long-term home office confronts me and my CMS colleagues with new challenges. Today, the compatibility of work and family life takes on a completely new meaning.
All of a sudden, you are available for the kids (we have two lively 8 and 6 year old children living in the household) all day around the clock. What at first sounds very family-friendly requires a high degree of self-discipline from parents and children alike.

While we parents try to meet the work demands of our own jobs, the children are challenged to keep themselves busy and do their schoolwork independently. And since schools remain closed for most grades, our own home office is supplemented by the additional family challenge of "home schooling".

In everyday practice, we parents are now temporary teachers, occupational therapists, friends, playmates and chefs all at once. All this requires a lot of tolerance, spontaneity and humour from all family members - which fortunately is not lacking in the Höfer´s home.

And while I'm still planning the stands of our exhibitors on my monitor, my children are already doing their very own trade fair construction in the garden and are already organising the next CMS practical forum.
